You Can’t Buy Self Love — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

My best friend Kate shared these two photos from our trip to Spain in 2019 side by side, emphasizing their similarities and differences. One was posed, one wasn’t. One was the type she would normally share, one wasn’t.  Both photos are below, along with her caption all about transparency, celebrating yourself, and the journey of self love, and I just adore what she had to say. I think you will too.

“These two photos were taken moments apart.

No hair and makeup, no Photoshop. Just myself and an incredibly skilled photographer.

I debated sharing the second photo. I tend to curate the photos that I share so that you don’t see my “imperfections”. But I realized that it’s not an honest approach to the self love I try to promote.

During one of our recent body image talks, Ellie and I noted that, more often than not, the things that we hate the most about ourselves tend to be the things that other people admire, or even desire, the most. Every time I wish that my thighs didn’t meet or that my waist was slimmer I have to remind myself that somewhere out there somebody wishes that they could have the things I’m ungratefully wishing away.

Recently I’ve seen many posts in the same vein. Friends that don’t always love themselves; that find it hard to post photos like this because all they can see are the perceived flaws. So often those negative thoughts and feelings are deafening, making it impossible to hear the positive truths that others see in ourselves.

The road to self love isn’t always paved. It can be hard, and even I don’t always love the person that I am some days. It takes a conscious effort. And unfortunately boudoir is not an instant fix. You just can’t purchase self love. But seeing others transparency through their journey to self love, as I myself have learned, can be one of the most beneficial experiences in your own journey.

So I post these photos both for myself, and for you.

Because while I see my soft stomach and the ripples in my thighs I also see myself. I recognize that I wouldn’t be who I am today, I wouldn’t have all of those little bits about myself that I love so much, without some of the bits that don’t receive as much love as they deserve.

I post these photos to show that even with  the flaws that we see in ourselves, that we (YOU) are still beautiful and important and worthy of love; from others, but ESPECIALLY from ourselves. I post these photos in celebration, and my hope for you is that you will also see the beauty that you are comprised of and celebrate yourself for every wrinkle, freckle, and scar sprinkled across your body.”
