Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

“Can I actuallly do this? Can I find a way to enjoy steping out of my comfort zone for just an hour?”

This thought is something that goes through almost everyone’s mind at some point before their boudoir session. Boudoir is so intimate, and is an experience that requires a level of vulnerability and trust. Stripping down for the camera isn’t something that’s inside most people’s comfort zones, especially babes who tend to be more modest than others. I get a lot of questions about how much undressing is required for a session and the answer is that there are no requirements! You are completely in the driver’s seat here.

I'll never ask or pressure you to undress past your comfort level; how clothed or unclothed you get is totally up to you.

My style when I’m taking photos is very laid back, and we won't jump into your sexiest lingerie sets immediately! I like to warm up with your most modest options, like sweaters and cardigans, and work up to the more revealing outfits towards the end when you're feeling more comfortable. And I’ll never pressure you to undress more than you want to. If you’d like to do part of your session topless, in the sheets, or fully nude then we totally will! That choice is up to what you feel comfortable with and what feels most like you!

Boudoir is a tool in your journey to self-discovery and self-love. For me, it’s less about photographing someone looking “sexy” and more about capturing the individual on the other side of my lens.

Of course your photos are going to be stunning, and you’re going to look incredible and feel even better. That’s a given. And while the photos are important and I’m super passionate about taking artistic photos that you’ll adore forever, my main goal is for you to gain more confidence in yourself, more love for yourself, and for this to be a step forward in your journey.

Doing a boudoir session can be a challenging thing to do, and even just showing up for and investing in yourself can be a hurdle. But I hope in doing a session you can appreciate yourself, the body you call home, and come to learn a little it more about yourself in the process.

How did you feel before your session, and what did you do to prepare?

After being told that I was doing a boudoir photo shoot (my best friend set up the session and told myself and her sister that we had to do it), I was very hesitant and not exactly thrilled about it. Being the conservative person I am, I’ve never enjoyed having my photo taken and this was going to be a huge step out of my comfort zone. Focusing on the reasons why I did not want to do it, I procrastinated on picking out outfits. Luckily, I already had clothes at home that I could wear and the only item I went out and purchased was a black bralette.

What were the biggest questions you had before your session?

Can I do this? Can I step out of my zone and relax? Am I going to feel and look awkward? How can I do a photo shoot with dog bite scars on my body?

How did you feel during your session?

At first, it was a little uncomfortable and I felt extremely nervous until I switched from outfit 1 to 2. With each outfit change I gained a little more confidence.

How did you feel after your session?

After leaving the studio I felt more confident in myself. This was a huge step for me and my self love.

Which photo from your session was your favorite, and why?

There were several photos I fell in love with, but overall I loved the photo taken in my black bralette with my white button up wrapped around me. It shows my confidence the most and is not too flashy! However, I also loved the photos where I wore all white lace. The outfit made me feel like a goddess, haha!

Would you recommend a boudoir session to other women?

Of course! I’ve always struggled with my self image and have never loved my body. I always told myself I was fat and picked out everything I did not like about my look. After viewing my images I realized that I am unique and beautiful. Ellie is amazing and does phenomenal work!

What would you say to someone who's unsure about doing a session?

Step out of your comfort zone. Put the thoughts in your head aside, and show off who you are. Doing a boudoir shoot will help you see just how beautiful you truly are.
