What to Wear During your Boudoir Session — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

After working in the photography industry, and specifically the boudoir niche, since 2016, I’ve compiled my knowledge, experience, and expertise about what to wear including some options to help you begin thinking about what to wear to your own session! I know there are so many emotions that you might feel before your session, and in my experience, choosing what to wear is the question I get asked the most! You may be thinking that you need to invest in an entirely new wardrobe of lingerie for your session, but that’s just one of many misconceptions about boudoir.

So many of my friends, clients, and potential clients get to this what to wear question and get hung up on what they feel like they “should” wear. Can I be honest with you? There isn’t a cheat sheet that will tell you exactly what to bring to look your best during your session, but I do have a few tips to help you make the best choices for you.

If you were to ask me for my best advice when choosing outfits, I do have one cardinal rule.

The number one thing you want to remember when choosing outfits for your session is this: choose outfits that make you feel like your best and baddest self. The trick isn’t finding lingerie that looks good on the hanger — you should choose pieces that make you FEEL good, and that confidence will shine through your photos. If you’re uncomfy, you’ll look it in your photos too, and we don’t want that!

Let me detail some of your options (of course with photos included) that might help you narrow down your selections to choose your favorite options that are perfect for you and your session!

Button-up Shirt

This one is so easy! Grab your favorite neutral button up shirt — maybe one of your honey’s if you’re doing a session as a gift! These are super fun to play with, do some off the shoulder looks, or button up for a more masculine vibe. So versatile and classic! My best advice when it comes to button ups is to steer away from any with a pattern - I love my fav plaid button-up too, but they tend to draw attention away from the star of the show - YOU!

Bodysuit

Whether they’re lacy, mesh, or soft cotton, bodysuits are my personal fave no matter which side of the camera I’m on! There are so many different varieties, and I’d bet that you already have one you love in your closet. They offer a little more coverage while still being super sexy — and the best part? Once your session is over, you can slip on some pants and be on your way to lunch!

Sweater

Okay… how comfy do these babes look? Sweaters are my favorite for a cozy feel, and for me, true to life! You can usually catch me rocking a sweater of some sort whether I’m at home or out and about. This look can be playful and flirty, or more casual and down-to-earth if you want photos that look like you’re just lounging around the house like the cutie you are. Either way, sweaters are an easy go-to! Just make sure the neck isn’t too high and the sweater isn’t too oversized - you don’t want to feel like you’re drowning in fabric!

Your Favorite T-Shirt

I always encourage my boudoir clients to shop their own closets before going out and buying all new things, and your favorite graphic tee is one thing that I love to see in the studio! It’s so personal to you, and is one of my favorite sexy-casual looks. Plus, you’re guaranteed to feel most comfy in a tee that you love, which will help you relax and open up at the beginning of your session.

Lingerie Set

This is just a classic. Lingerie sets are perfect for moody photos like these, and are super sexy.  (Seriously, you look like a supermodel. Kendall Jenner WHO!?) One lingerie set is a staple in every session I’ve shot, and can be paired with shirts or cardigans for a different vibe! You can choose sets that are strappy and thin or have fuller coverage, there are so many options to choose from! They don’t have to be uncomfy either - lots of sets are made from fabrics with plenty of stretch that won’t dig into your skin.

Birthday Suit

This is the easiest option you could bring! We use strategic angles and placement of fabric, shadows, and limbs to give the idea of nudity. You can totally wear a thong or g-string similar to your skin tone and no one would ever know. And I can almost guarantee that you’ll squeal when you see these photos of yourself. Girl, this could be you!!
