What to Expect From Your Boudoir Session – Evansville Indiana Photographer
If you’ve ever opened up Google and typed in “boudoir photographer near me,” you’ve probably been met with dozens of options and thought… where do I even start?
You prob feel a mix of excitement and nerves—curious about trying something new, but not totally sure what you’re even signing up for. And then all the questions start flooding in.
What do I wear? How many photos do I get? Do I do my own hair and makeup? What if I’m too awkward? I’m not photogenic… will my photos actually look as good as these? Am I going to regret this?!?
Doing anything for the first time can feel intimidating, but especially something like boudoir that requires a certain level of vulnerability. And if we’re being honest, you might not even know me yet. (Hi, I’m Ellie. I’m an eldest daughter, a cat person, and a recovering perfectionist. Nice to meet you!)
But to be real, my goal with this post is simple: I want you to walk away feeling a little more at ease knowing your questions have answers and feeling confident enough to take that next step to reach out and talk to me about your first session.
Why do people book boudoir session?
Most of the people who find their way here aren’t just looking for photos. There’s usually something happening in life that makes them think, “I want to feel like myself again.”
Sometimes it’s a celebration—I see a lot of people celebrating weddings, anniversaries, new babies, big milestones. Other times it’s a transition that feels significant, like a birthday, a breakup, finishing school, or stepping into a completely new season of life. (Heyyyy empty nesters!)
And sometimes… there’s no big reason at all. You just want to do something for yourself. You want to feel more at home in your body, to like what you see in the mirror a little more. Maybe a friend has done a session and now you can’t stop thinking, “I wanna do that too.”
And duh, of course you want photos of yourself that you can’t stop obsessing over. But underneath that, there’s usually something deeper: most of my clients tell me they’re really looking for confidence, too.
What this experience is actually like
You’ll be welcomed in the studio, given a moment to settle in, and introduced to your hair and makeup artist. From there, the entire first part of your session is designed to help you ease into the experience.
While you’re getting pampered, I’m hanging out on the couch nearby—half doing admin things, half chatting with you and our glam artist (okay… let’s be honest, I’m doing more yapping than working lol). Sometimes we’re talking about what brought you in; I love hearing about your relationship, your kids, your travels. Other times, it’s just real-life conversations about how hard it can be to be an adult or whatever you need to get off your chest that day.
Having this time together before diving into your session gives you space to relax, to exhale, and to let go of any hectic feelings or overwhelm left over from the morning.
By the time glam is done, you’re not walking into an intimidating photoshoot with a near-stranger. You’re already feeling more comfortable and we’re well on our way to being fast friends.
You’re not expected to show up camera-ready or confident or “knowing your angles.” That’s my job, not yours.
When we start shooting, it’s just you, me, and my camera. No big, overwhelming setup. No pressure to perform a version of sexy that walks annual fashion show runways.
I’ll demonstrate every pose before you do it, walk you through exactly what to do with your body, and guide you through the entire process. I’ll also show you the back of the camera along the way so you can see for yourself—you look so good.
A lot of my clients tell me it feels less like a Very Serious Photo Session™ and more like hanging out with a friend. And that’s exactly how we like it!
Most importantly, you know I’ll guide you through the whole session and you’ll never feel alone.
