How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer
I know first hand that preparing for your boudoir session can feel overwhelming.
I’m definitely a list maker, and having a checklist makes me feel more on top of things when I’m getting ready for something like this, so I created one for my clients! The prep guide that my clients get is super extensive — I would definitely call myself an over-communicator. None of the things that are included in the prep guide are required, but if you’re feeling some nervous butterflies and doing some special things to prep beforehand would make you feel a little better, then I’ve totally got you covered.
My prep guide is filled to the brim with info; from general tips to what to bring to wear during your session, to helpful tips for prepping from the week before to the day of. When I say I’ve got you, I mean it. I’ve got you. And I’d love to give you a small peek into some of the things I recommend to my clients.
THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION
You’ve been prepping for your session for weeks, and the day of your session is finally here! The day of can come along with lots of emotions — often my clients feel a little nervous, excited, and everything in between. Make sure to relax a bit, and spend the morning taking care of yourself and doing things that make you feel good. (Like listening to your favorite tunes on your way to the studio!) There are some other things you can do before your session too if you feel like you want to!
Nourish yourself! I know my clients make it look easy, but posing can be kind of a workout and feeling faint or light-headed isn't good for a fun and relaxing session. Whatever nourishing your body looks like for you, make sure you do it before you come to the studio! It's SO important to have enough energy and be able to focus on your session and not on your hunger. And make sure to hydrate beforehand!
Stretch! The thing I hear the most after a session is that my clients feel a little sore from posing! The morning of your session, do some light stretching to loosen up your muscles and prepare. Stretch your arms, legs, and back to minimize feeling too sore afterwards! After your shoot, you might want to take a pain reliever if you’re able and stretch again before bed -- this will help ease those muscle aches.
Wear loose fitting clothing! Try to avoid wearing jeans, socks, a bra, and other tight clothes to your session because they often leave marks on your skin. I would suggest wearing a dress, leggings or sweats, a t-shirt, or sweater to your session to ensure maximum comfort and avoid those marks.
Try to relax. Once you get to the studio, ideally you’ll be a little early and can take your time making your way inside. I encourage you to sit in your car for a minute, close your eyes if you feel safe doing so, and take a breath. Acknowledge whatever feelings have come up for you, and thank your body for getting you to this moment. (A little personal attunement moment never hurt anyone!) Then, you’ll grab your things and make your way inside to the studio to me and one of our favorite playlists.
