Your Own Muse – Celebrating Your Body Through Boudoir

Sitting side by side looking through her photos after our session was over, we were completely captivated by what we had created together.

These photos were so beautiful.

But let me back up for a sec.

This session was inspired by art history; specifically Venus de Milo.

We took this piece of art as inspiration, creating a painterly series of images, depicting her as her own muse. We wanted to celebrate her body and humanity for herself.

So many statues of Venus have been created, celebrating the female form, from Venus of Willendorf to Venus de Milo. Regardless of body type, the women are revered. Can you imagine being the muse for one of those pieces of art?

What it must feel like for your body to be seen as so beautiful that it has to be immortalized in art.

You don’t have to take it from me, you can see the photos yourself. (keep scrolling!)

Just like Venus de Milo, she looked like an absolute goddess – we set up a dark seamless backdrop and draped her in white fabric, imitating the drapery often seen on ancient Greek statues. I developed this concept inspired by art history as well as the idea that you can be your own muse. You don't have to wait for someone else to point out your beauty to start seeing it yourself.

Besides the artistry of it all, what really struck me was how she embraced herself and her body in this moment. She did this session for herself, telling me that she was really excited to be in front of the camera and trusted me to work my magic behind the camera. Throughout her session, we worked together to come up with empowering poses and expressions. She quieted the thoughts about how she β€œshould” look, and owned her beauty. The way the light played off her curves and the way she’s holding herself in these photos? Incredible.

But it wasn’t just about creating beautiful photos, it was about reminding herself that she’s a work of art.

The best part was how empowered she felt during our time together. She let go of all the expectations and just let herself be. And our hope in sharing these photos is that it reminds us all that we can all create our own beauty standards and be our own inspiration.
