5 Perfect Outfits Already in Your Closet — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

The first question that a lot of my clients ask right after booking their session is the age old — “okay Ellie, but what am I going to wear?!” When you’re cruising Pinterest desperate for an outfit to hop off the page and shout at you that it’s the one, it’s easy to get sucked into the common myths that boudoir has to be sexy with a capital S, that you have to bring lingerie and garter belts with thigh high stockings in order to have the session of your dreams.

Now, you know that I’m a huge supporter of doing nice things for yourself, and sometimes it can feel like we need an excuse to do those nice things. If booking a boudoir session is the perfect reason for you to freshen up your hair, treat yourself to a mani/pedi, or splurge a little on some new outfits, then please do! But I want to break down those expectations and ideas of what your boudoir session should be and help you push out all the ‘musts’ and ‘shoulds’ to refocus on what you want your session to be.

The only thing your boudoir session should be is a representation of you.

You don’t have to invest in a whole new wardrobe to look stunning in your photos. In fact, there are loads of perfect outfit options that are already in your closet that you can rock during your session. You probably already own quite a few items that are perfect for boudoir that you might not think of when you’re choosing your wardrobe. This is something that my clients and I talk about a LOT during consult calls before sessions! Often, we look through their closet together virtually and talk about all the things they already have that will be amazing. Thinking outside the box and experimenting with new outfits is always encouraged, and I’m always here to help you with it!

So I did some brainstorming and came up with five options for your boudoir wardrobe that you already have in your closet. You ready?

Your Comfiest Graphic Tee

Graphic tees and crop tops are a cute item that is sure to already have made an appearance in your closet. These types of shirts are super casual and fun. This just goes to show that you don’t have to have the sexiest, strappiest lingerie to look hot! Paired with a neutral cheeky panty or strappy bodysuit underneath, the graphic tee can be a great way to show off who you are and what you’re about. Bring a tee from your favorite concert or featuring the logo of your drink of choice. I’ve even had a babe bring a Tabasco tee! Plus, this piece is kind of like a security blanket of sorts — you’re sure to feel more comfortable in your favorite tee and have an easier time relaxing!

Your Favorite Jacket (or Cardigan!)

This is one of the easies ones that I see most often in the studio. Show off the flair on your most loved denim jacket, wrap up in your tried and true comfy cardigan, or go full rockstar with your hottest leather jacket. No matter which direction you go, these pieces are nice for layering and add texture to your photos that is a really nice way to show off your personality. You can pair this with a simple panty, a bodysuit, or a lingerie set. Each of these photos shows off who that babe is; they each chose a layering piece that showcases what they’re about. This could be you too!

A Cozy Sweater

Perfect for winter sessions and babes that want to dress a bit more modestly for their sessions, cozy sweaters can be very true to you. I know I’m not the only one who wakes up on Sunday mornings wanting to stay in bed and cancel the pants-wearing for the day, lol. When babes bring in a pair of cheeky panties with a big, comfy sweater, it’s sure to give off those Sunday morning vibes. I love that lifestyle feel, as if you just got out of bed, and I think you will too.

Athleisure

This can be your favorite pair of Calvins, or your favorite joggers that you lounge around the house in. This is a super easy outfit that you’re guaranteed to feel comfy in! This is a great option to start your session with because you’re mostly covered and feel a little more secure than you might in lingerie. And if this is the kind of outfit you usually rock, let’s capture some photos of you in it!

Your Birthday Suit

This one’s the easiest, and requires you to bring nothing at all! Forget the closet, we can use just sheets and strategic posing to imply nudity. This lends itself well to classy photos that showcase your figure and celebrate you, which is exactly what my goals are for each session. I’ve never had a client regret capturing some photos that are tastefully in the nude. Or if you’re more comfortable, bring a thong or g-string that’s close to your skin tone or a neutral color for the same vibe!
