3 Boudoir Myths Busted – Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer
Boudoir comes with some preconceived notions about things that you have to do for your session.
Around here, we give those preconceived notions a bigggg ole middle finger. You don’t have to do anything that you don’t normally do for your session! I’m all for taking the opportunity to treat yourself if you want to, but please don’t feel pressured to show up in a way that isn’t authentic to YOU. There is no right or wrong way to exist in the world or in your body, and you deserve to be celebrated regardless of how many trips you've made around the sun or how many pounds you weigh. And that sentiment is one that we take as a fact around here.
I want to capture your favorite version of yourself, whatever that looks like for you.
You don’t have to get your hair and makeup done
This is a two-for-one – first, you don’t have to do your hair and makeup at all. If you want to go for an all natural look and vibe, then let’s do that! Wear your hair natural and swap the makeup for just a moisturizer. Or if you just aren’t one to go full glam but you do want a lil something, don’t feel obligated to have your hair and makeup professionally done. Your normal hair and makeup routine is more than okay! I’ve only had my makeup professionally done for a boudoir session one time; every other session I’ve had, I’ve done it myself and loved my photos!
You don’t have to buy new lingerie
This is a big one because figuring out what to wear tends to be the biggest question people have before a session. If you want to use this as a reason to go the extra mile and treat yourself or you have a specific look in mind that you’re going for, then do your thing! But if that’s not you, then shop your closet first. See what pieces you already have that will make great outfits and then splurge on one new piece instead of trying to create an entire new wardrobe.
You don’t have to remove your body hair
I do not expect you to show up to your session smooth as a naked mole rat. Whether you remove your body hair or not, it absolutely does not matter to me. If you have body hair and you like it that way, then pleaseeee don’t feel like you need to do it for your boudoir session if you don’t want to!
I think sometimes we just need a simple reminder that we are in the driver’s seat of our lives.
In my early 20’s I was beginning to learn that I was in the driver’s seat, but I hadn’t quite gotten there yet. I just let life happen to me, whether it was good or bad, and I wish in that time in my life I had someone tell me that I was capable of living the life of my dreams. I wish someone would have told me that I’m in charge of making choices that serve me, that make me feel like my favorite self. Just like I want that for 20 year old Ellie, I want that for you too.
