How to Choose a Photographer — Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

Whether you’re looking for a photographer for your wedding, your next family session, or for your first boudoir session (wink wink), there are so many amazing professionals out there that it can be overwhelming! How do you even know where to start with your search, let alone begin to narrow down your long list of options?

There’s no shortage of talented pros out there, so it can be a challenge to know how to choose who to work with.

Luckily for you, I’ve put together a list of questions you can refer back to and keep at the top of your mind when you’re beginning to choose your next photographer. You’re welcome.

Some q’s to keep in mind while you’re shopping around:

  • Do you like their work and like how they photograph people?

    • The first thing you want to do when you’re choosing a photographer is to visit their website and their social media pages to see more of their work. You want to find someone whose work you already love so that when you’re in front of their camera, you know what to expect! Think about things like their editing style, how they photograph people, the poses you see, the amount of candid images, and if the people in their photos look comfortable. And make sure to ask your friends who they’ve worked with and liked!

  • Does their work make you feel empowered to show up as you are?

    • When you’re looking through their photos, do you feel like you could be the people in the photos the way you are? Or do they make you feel like you need to change things about yourself to be in the photos? I think it’s important to work with someone who makes you feel like you can be yourself in front of their lens!

  • Do you feel comfortable with them?

    • This is all about personality and the type of person you want to work with! You want to choose someone who you feel at least a little comfy with before you book your session. Read through their about page on their website or look for personal posts on their social media to get a feeling of who they are, and decide if they’re the kind of person you want to be around. Not only are you investing in their services, but you’re investing your time spent with them too! You want to enjoy your time together, and that leads to looking comfortable (and happy!) in your photos too!

  • Do they place conscious importance on your entire experience?

    • We know that a session of any kind is so much more than just showing up and taking photos. When you’re shopping for a photographer, look for information about the experience they offer. Do they go the extra mile to help you prepare and take care in delivering your photos in a thoughtful way? Do they make sure your questions are answered and you know what to expect?

  • Are they inclusive of people with bodies and experiences like yours?

    • This is especially important when it comes to boudoir! If you’re looking at their website or social media, you want to see people who look like you or who have lived experiences that are similar to yours. It’s an added layer of comfort knowing that the person you’re choosing to work with has worked with people like you before, and they’ve had a good experience! Again, it’s a good idea to ask your friends and see who they’ve worked with and who they recommend!

  • Do their practices align with your values?

    • This is all about investing in an experience that leaves you feeling fulfilled! If you value intentionality and connection, you’ll want to work with someone who takes time to get to know you.
