Day-Of Boudoir Session Prep – How to Actually Enjoy the Experience

Let’s be real—most people show up to their boudoir session nervous AF.

Even the most confident clients have a moment of “wait, what am I doing?” and mentally flipping through all the excuses they could use to get out of it. Hi, it’s me. There are nerves, there’s the “what if I’m awkward?” spiral, and then there’s the entire internet telling you to drink celery juice and do 400 crunches. Spoiler: you don’t need to do any of that. I’m here to help calm those nerves and help you walk into your session feeling prepared, grounded, and excited—not frazzled and second-guessing all your life choices that led to this point.

Here’s what you actually need to know about preparing for your boudoir session the day of—no stress and no nonsense.

Start your day slowly

If you’re able, clear your schedule for the morning of your session. You don’t want to be rushing in from errands or answering one last work email in the car. Give yourself space to breathe, stretch, sip your coffee, and just be in your body. Play music that makes you feel good, wear something comfortable, and let the day feel like your day. Because it is!

If you’re the journaling type, the morning of your session is a great time to scribble a few thoughts about why you booked this session and what you want to feel when you’re done. Your feelings and headspace matter more than the perfect pose ever could. If journaling doesn’t quite do it for ya, find that thing that helps you feel centered and do that instead! There isn’t a one size fits all approach to a boudoir session. Do what feels good for you!

Wear something that makes you feel good (before the lingerie)

Think of what you wear to the studio as the pre-game; it sets the tone for your day. Skip tight-fitting and uncomfy clothes like jeans and socks with seams that leave marks on your skin—instead, opt for something loose and comfy. I’ll be wearing something comfy too! Often, your session includes you getting into clothes that you normally don’t wear in front of other people, which is inherently vulnerable. So show up to your session in an outfit that makes you feel good! That confidence will carry into your session.

Fuel your body like you love it

Please don’t skip your first meal of the day thinking it’ll make you look better in photos somehow. You won’t feel your best if you’re exhausted and hangry halfway through our time together. Eat something nourishing that feels good in your body, and don’t forget to hydrate too! Your skin (and your energy) will thank you.

And take a few minutes in the morning to stretch! Posing for photos is more of a workout than it seems, and you’ll want to feel loose and limber before doing it for an hour! If you forget and want to stretch together before we start shooting, we can absolutely do that.

Trust the process and let go of perfection

You don’t need to know how to pose or have a million ideas on your Pinterest board. Your only job is to show up as you, and I’ve got the rest. I’ll guide you through everything from what to expect as we flow through the session to posing and facial expressions. Trust that I’ve got you from start to finish, and from head to toe.

If some nerves pop up, that’s totally normal–we can work through them together! They usually melt away within the first few minutes.

Just remember that this isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.

A little intention goes a long way. Your only job is to show up as yourself—the rest, we handle together.
