3 Reasons to do a Boudoir Session – Evansville Indiana Boudoir Photographer

Take it from me, take it from all of my incredible clients who have booked sessions for themselves - boudoir is first and foremost for YOU.

I met someone for the first time this Summer, and the "what do you do" question came up. For me as a boudoir photographer, this question always causes me do a little mental math about how much truth the person can handle. Some people are cool with the whole boudoir thing, and some people are... let's say, less than cool.

The person I was talking to was a man in his 70's, and normally I would kinda gloss over the boudoir aspect of my work to avoid any ~weirdness~, and just say I'm a portrait photographer, but for some reason I decided to tell the whole truth. I have no idea what came over me in this moment. Maybe I felt like he could handle it, or that I could handle follow up questions or comments especially well that day. Who knows, but I’m so glad that I said what I do with my whole chest.

He asked a classic follow up question: why do people do boudoir?

So I started listing some reasons for him:

→ to celebrate a milestone (birthday, cancer remission, divorce, etc)

→ to do something new and fun

→ to gift to someone special

And finally, most importantly and most often, it's because they want to.

And what he said next really surprised me, because it wasn't what I was expecting AT ALL. 

He said, "Wow kid, you really found your niche. That's awesome that you found something you love to do and are good at and are helping people the way that you are"

Um okay, excuse me while I go cry my eyes out because that is SO kind. And not only that, but it was just so validating.

Coming from a relative stranger who I wrongfully assumed wouldn't "get" what I do or why I do it–but he did get it. Genuinely, he understood what boudoir can do for people and why I care so much about it. And he was really encouraging, and made me feel really good in that moment!

My approach to boudoir is super self-centered; your session is about YOU.

The experience that I give to my clients is celebratory, empowering, and liberating. It helps you prove to yourself that you can do hard things, that you're capable of stretching outside your comfort zone with confidence. Even though there are sooo many reasons to do a boudoir session, I want you to know that you don’t need an excuse or a special occasion to decide to do it. You can book a boudoir session just because you want to.

Let me say it again – you can do it just because you want to!
