Skin is Supposed to Have Texture – How I Edit Your Boudoir Photos
Bestie, I'm gonna be honest with you. Your skin is meant to have texture. You aren’t made of plastic, your skin has pores and dimples and bumps!
It’s of the upmost importance to me that when you flip through your photos in ten, twenty, or even fifty years that you recognize the person in the photos – and when you look at yourself in the mirror the day after seeing them for the first time, you see the same beauty reflected back at you that you saw in those photos.
This is why I edit the way that I do.
I prioritize true-to-life colors and accurate skin tones, alongside a vibe inspired by film cameras. My retouching work is done with a light hand.
But what actually goes through my mind when I’m editing your photos? Here’s my workflow.
First, I remove anything temporary. Acne, scratches, scrapes, and bruises all go. Anything that isn’t part of you every day gets immediately erased. Your tattoos, scars, and birth marks all stay unless you specifically ask me to remove them and we have a conversation about it. Most importantly, stretch marks and cellulite never get removed in Photoshop. Those parts of your canvas are normal, part of you, and from a purely technical perspective… photos look super weird when those things are removed or smoothed out.
From there, I lightly smooth your skin, give your eyes, jewelry, and sometimes hair a little more shine, and make any harsh tan lines look a little less severe. I won’t smooth your skin into oblivion and leave you looking like Barbie. My edits are minimal because you’re perfect exactly as you are.
Then, I save a copy of the retouched image, and save a copy in black and white for you too!
All in all, when you look at your finished photos, you'll see YOURSELF. Not some unattainable version of you that only existed for your session.
